10 Year Anniversary of ISHA

“The 2018 Annual ISHA Scientific Meeting will be held in Melbourne, Australia from October 4-6. This will be the 10th Anniversary Meeting of ISHA, and we are planning some special events to mark this achievement. It will also be the first meeting of the newly changed ISHA which will officially include open hip preservation surgery into our name, and open hip preservation surgeons into our great fellowship of friends.

Melbourne is Australia’s second largest city, and has, on seven consecutive occasions, been voted the world’s most livable city. It is also the birthplace of hip arthroscopy in Australia and remains the hip arthroscopy capital of the country. It is a very safe city, with excellent public transport, making it very easy to visit the many attractions we have to offer.

Melbourne is also easily reached by air, with many airlines having direct flights to Melbourne International Airport, and many others connecting via Sydney. The Conference will be held in the new, state of the art, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

There are 2 hotels, including a new Novotel attached to the Centre, and there are many accommodation options within easy walking distance. October is usually a beautiful time with warm spring days, and the many parks and gardens in full bloom.

As well, this is the time of the Australian Football Finals, and there will be an air of anticipation and excitement, with the Grand Final Parade, and many other events on around this time. Melbourne is also a great place to bring your family. There are many wonderful things to do and places to visit for people of all ages.

There are also outstanding attractions close to the city, such as the Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary, full of Australia’s unique animals, or the Great Ocean Road. And, of course, Australia is a big and very different country, with many fantastic places to visit. I hope you will be able to join us for a great meeting, and maybe also stay on for a while.”

10 Year Anniversary of ISHA

Founded in 2008 by a group of pioneering surgeons, ISHA through its annual meeting and dedicated funds for research, was the catalyst for the development of knowledge on non-arthritic hip pathologies and their arthroscopic treatment. ISHA has always pushed for the development of new technologies and practices for the best treatment of non-arthritic hip pathologies, as well as embracing open hip preservation surgery. The arthroscope and the development of imaging associated with anatomical, biomechanical and clinical research, made it possible to progress phenomenally rapidly in the discovery and management of unknown hip and periarticular pathologies.

The 10th ISHA annual meeting, held in the marvellous city of Melbourne, Australia, will review the last 10 years of the four key hip pathologies and their main structures in various concurrent and parallel sessions. The sessions can be followed in two ways: the first pathway allows delegates to attend sessions on the four main pathologies, from varying degrees of expertise ranging from beginner to intermediate or from experienced to expert hip surgeon. The other pathway involves focusing in depth on one particular pathology. Instructional Course Lectures will now become Interactive Course Lectures and delegates questions submitted during registration will be addressed. The interactivity will also take place during the virtual hip surgery training sessions available throughout the conference.

With the geographical proximity of Asia we will also devote half a day to an Asian Society meeting on Wednesday 3rd October 2018. Friday 5th October 2017 will also have a dedicated physiotherapist programme.

Finally, Australia will offer a multitude of possibilities for cultural and sporting visits pre and post conference, as well as interesting itineraries for accompanying partners.

We look forward to you joining us in Melbourne for this vintage “ISHA 2018”.
